Travel Insurance Excess Waiver Explained

When buying travel insurance or any insurance for that matter you are often given the option to pay an extra amount to waive the insurance excess.

When you purchase travel insurance you will receive a schedule of benefits. This schedule will indicate an excess which is payable should you make a claim. For example, you have taken out a Leisure travel insurance policy with Easy Travel. With this insurance policy the excess is R1000 for personal liability meaning that if you were to make a claim against the policy for personal liability then you would need to pay a R1000 as excess for the claim. If you purchase excess waiver which costs an additional R100 then this excess will be waived should you make a claim. The excess waiver does not apply to pre-existing medical conditions.
